Peiting - On Tuesday, Mayor Peter Ostenrieder included a short Italian sentence in the laudatory speech for Pankratia Holl, who was awarded the Peiting Citizen's Medal on the eve of her 80th birthday.

“Grazie mille, cara Pankratia”.

This means “Thank you very much, dear Pankratia”.

She was a local councilor for 36 years, is the face of the Peiting farmers market and is the link between Peiting and Calvi (central Italy).

In addition to the Golden Ring of Honor, the market town's high awards include the Peitinger Citizens' Medal.

There are currently three Ring of Honor recipients and 14 people with the Citizen's Medal.

Pankratia Holl grew up in Peißenberg and came to Peiting-Kurzenried as a farmer.

In 1977 she was elected Peitingen local farmer, which she remained until 1997.

She was even deputy district farmer for 15 years – from 1987 to 2002.

“All in all, she acted as an ambassador for the farming community in our region for a quarter of a century,” said the mayor, acknowledging Holl’s commitment.

At that time she was a pioneer for a whole new generation of farmers who confidently stood up for their profession and their opinions.

From the very beginning, it was important to Pankratia Holl to make the work of farmers tangible and visible to as many people as possible.

The idea for a farmers' market flourished, and in 1993 she and Herwig Skalitza were able to launch the Peitinger Farmers' Market.

It has been around for over 30 years now;

The 300th farmers market is coming up this year.

Pankratia Holl was not only a co-initiator, she is still a co-organizer to this day and, above all, an active Kiachlebach native and market woman with homemade, regional products at her stand every month.

Pankratius Festival

The partnership between Peiting and the small town of Calvi dell' Umbria has existed for 35 years.

As a local farmer, it was clear to “Krazi” from her first contacts in Calvi in 1988 that she had to see what was going on there and that she could promote the European idea of such a friendship.

It was the town of Saint Pankratius, in whose honor a big festival takes place every year.

Long before the actual partnership, she was part of the first Peitinger visiting group for the Pankratius Festival in May 1988 with the then mayor Klement Sesar.

And since then, Pankratia has become a real link between Calvesen and Peitingen, as Ostenrieder reflected in the laudatory speech.

Hence his saying “Grazie mille, cara Pankratia!”
