Despite revelations about his immense wealth, Vladimir Putin claims to have a low salary.

Moscow – There have always been myths surrounding Vladimir Putin's fortune.

According to estimates, the Russian president is one of the richest people in Europe and is worth several billion euros.

Most recently, a video emerged that supposedly shows a residence on the NATO border.

However, Putin himself claims that his salary as president is surprisingly low.

Report: Putin only earns 700,000 euros in six years - including additional income

According to a report by

Newsweek,

Putin is said to have earned 67.6 million rubles as Russian leader between 2018 and 2024.

This emerges from documents from the Central Election Commission.

According to the current exchange rate, the sum corresponds to just under 700,000 euros.

In addition to his salary as president, this figure also includes income from bank deposits, a military pension and money he earned from real estate sales.

For comparison: Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz earns around 360,000 euros per year.

In addition, Putin is said to have savings of 54.5 million rubles (equivalent to around 560,000 euros), spread across ten different bank accounts.

It has long been known that he owns two vintage cars from the former Soviet Union: a GAZ-21 Volga from the 1960s and a Lada Niva from 2009, with a camping trailer (built in 1987).

According to the documents, the 71-year-old owns a small apartment and a garage in St. Petersburg and an apartment in Moscow.

Vladimir Putin: Between immense luxury and supposedly modest salary

It is probably no coincidence that the information about the Kremlin autocrat's financial circumstances became public before the Russian elections in March.

There are also doubts about the numbers.

Putin is said to own various aircraft, yachts, luxury cars and helicopters, among other things.

Most recently, the 71-year-old entered the race as the fourth candidate.

His re-election is considered assured.
