Two Carabinieri and an army soldier were hurt as migrants protested after the suicide of a 22-year-old inmate of the CPR pre-removal center in Rome Sunday, throwing stones at staff there.
There was severe unrest at the Center for Stay for Repatriation (CPR) in Ponte Galeria where the man was found dead at dawn.
Some guests tried to break down an iron door, threw stones at the staff and tried to set fire to a car.
Police used tear gas to put down the riot.
The situation has now returned to normal, sources said.
Migrant inmates can be held in CPRs for up to 12 months.
Rome inmates ombudsman Valentina Calderone said "there was noneed to wait for the death of a young man to say that these totally inhuman places must be closed".
