Threads, the Meta social network considered the anti-Twitter, has reached 130 million monthly active users and is preparing to venture deeper into the fediverse, a system that allows different social platforms to communicate with each other.
The announcement of the achievement of 130 million monthly active users was made by Meta's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg during the quarterly report a few days ago.
The text-only app is one of many new projects that have arisen in the wake of Elon Musk's 2022 acquisition of Twitter, now called X, and the disaffection of several users.
Threads "is growing constantly", explained Zuckerberg regarding the app launched in July 2023 and arrived in Europe and Italy a few months later, in mid-December.
A few days after the American launch it reached 100 million users.
Regarding the fediverse, according to the website The Verge, the programmer Alessandro Paluzzi who in the past has anticipated new features of various platforms thanks to reverse engineering, the new option that Threads is working on will allow you to activate and deactivate user sharing on the fediverse.
The fediverse is based on an open protocol, called ActivityPub, and which is based on a set of servers: it allows, among other things, to create, distribute and comment on contents such as photos, videos or text posts, as well as import and export lists of contacts, without the need for everyone to be registered on the same social network platform.
