The Peiting community and parish library is now faced with a huge readership: within ten years the number of loans has almost doubled.

Peiting - If you look back ten years - figures are available from 2014 - then the library team in Peiting is doing a fantastic job: Back then there were around 23,000 loans per year, but last year the library women had In 2023, the amount on offer is pretty much double: registered citizens borrowed exactly 45,646 media last year alone.

In 2022 there were 35,216. Which means an increase of an incredible 29 percent.

In other words: a third more.

In numbers: Customers with ID took home an incredible 10,430 more media items last year alone.

But that's not all: Because the Peiting community and parish library does not yet have an online loan facility, all media went directly through the loan counter, staffed by permanent or freelance employees.

Books, magazines, games, Tonies, CDs.

Reading afternoons for children, collaborations with local primary schools, but also readings with well-known authors: library director Margit Kees spares no effort to inspire every clientele for a very special passion - reading.

She is particularly happy about one thing: that schools are coming back.

“It was completely dormant during Corona, but now more are coming than before.” The Peitingen schools are regular visitors to the library and, after an introduction by the library team, are allowed to enrich their free time with letters and pages.

The current inventory looks like this: A total of more than 13,000 items can be borrowed.

Last year, 1,088 active readers actively used the Peiting community and parish library's offerings, said Kees.

In the previous year there were 938.

The trend and additional effort are increasing significantly.

This is also reflected in the number of new registrations: there were at least 219 of them in 2023. “There were a lot of children and young families there,” says Kees.

Especially families and children: almost 9,000 more visitors than in the previous year in 2022

The visitor flow data also fits these numerical facts: If you combine opening times and events, the Peiting community and parish library counted exactly 32,065 visitors in 2023.

Last year there were 23,310 visitors, almost 9,000 fewer.

“We have also set a new visitor record,” explains Margit Kees, not without pride.

The library team currently consists of three employees with a total of 31 working hours per week from the Peiting community and 16 volunteers.

A team that worked to the limit in 2023: The women were available to readers for 68 opening hours last year.

In just one year, exactly 1,199 hours of volunteer work were collected.

The entire team did an average of 23 hours of volunteer work per calendar week.

“If you only calculate the current minimum wage for Germany for 2023 of 12 euros, this voluntary work saved around 14,300 euros for the institution and the library’s sponsors,” Margit Kees calculates her team’s commitment very modestly .

And: "After a year's break, we would like to take part in the 'Summer Holiday Reading Club' again." So there is even more to do for the library team.
