Hooded with a pillowcase, put on his stomach with a trip and then punched in the face and side, trampled with boots, held for a few minutes by the arms and legs by the prison police officers.

Then stripped naked and lifted bodily, still with the hood on his head, until he was dragged to the cell.

The beating suffered by a 40-year-old Tunisian prisoner on 3 April in a corridor of an Italian prison, the Reggio Emilia institute, is documented by the videos of the internal cameras, which ended up in the records of the investigation closed by the Reggio Emilia prosecutor's office against 10 officers , eight accused of torture.

The video, which ANSA has viewed, shows almost ten minutes of a beating that took place in two phases: about seven in the corridor, then on the door to the cell.

Something "brutal, ferocious and absolutely disproportionate to the behavior of the prisoner", wrote the investigating magistrate Luca Ramponi who in July issued an order banning ten suspects from service.

The inmate had just left the director's room, after having been given an isolation sanction for conduct that had violated the regulations.

As he headed towards the cells, the cameras record how he was hooded, tripped and then hit while he was on the ground.

Then we observe how the prisoner was lifted into mid-air, still with his hood on and at that point stripped naked.

He was led to the cell and beaten again, then he remained there for over an hour, despite requests for help.

At that point, it was reconstructed, the Tunisian would have broken the sink of the cell to try to attract attention, starting to hurt himself with the shards: the images show the corridor in front of the cell being flooded with blood.

After about an hour, a doctor and another inmate intervened and helped him.

The victim later filed a complaint which triggered the investigation.
