The pose is perfect: Sissi and Franz I von Ebersberg greet their subjects in front of the royal castle in the district town.
Her crowning achievement was a spontaneous idea.

This year, for the first time, the district town is also presenting a royal carnival duo: Empress Sissi and Emperor Franz. The imperial couple sees their role loosely.
Ebersberg - On the morning of Nonsense Thursday, Emperor Franz leads his Sissi on his arm from their shared residence at Schlossplatz 4 in Ebersberg.
Under the wine-red cloak, the Empress's golden dress immediately catches the eye.
The white embellishments with tulle and lace, the pinned-up hair and the golden gloves finally complete the royal look.
In contrast, the emperor appears rather simple with his royal blue suit.
Ebersberg Carnival Society is presenting an imperial couple for the first time this year
“I will miss you, but I will voluntarily give you back after Carnival,” says the Empress, alias Sissi Heimgartner (49), suddenly laughing loudly in the direction of her 32-year-old husband.
He waves off the brisk statement with a wave of his hand.
Because it's still carnival and the highlight of the foolish time - the Ebersberg carnival parade - is still to come.

For the first time this year, the Ebersberg Carnival Society is presenting an imperial couple.
That wasn't planned.
“We were simply elevated to our position,” says Kaiser Franz, whose real name is Franz Otter.
There was no agreement between them that they would be crowned the imperial couple.
“We were just supposed to make a promotional video for the club,” remembers Sissi.
At a subsequent board meeting, the Ebersbergers came up with the idea: two members whose real names are Sissi and Franz, and one of whom even lives in a castle.
“So they decided on the motto,” reports Franz.
No time for preparations: Sissi and Franz are spontaneously crowned as the imperial couple
That was less than a month ago.
The newly crowned imperial couple didn't have much time for preparations.
A member of the carnival society quickly dug out the Empress's dress from his stash.
“It’ll be fine for you, they said,” reports Sissi, shaking her head in disbelief with a broad grin.
She borrowed the imperial wig from a friend.
Franz, however, ordered his suit online.
As spontaneously as the two slipped into their roles, they presented themselves as playfully: In the style of the “Bully Parade”, the imperial couple wanted to embody fun.
“Carnival here in Ebersberg is very relaxed,” says Sissi.
“We don’t have any appointments, we just go wherever we like.”
“We’re not carnival fans”: the imperial couple can be seen at official appearances
During their short reign, the royal highnesses went to the Ebersberg district office, to the children's carnival in the folk festival hall and to their royal neighbors in Grafing.
Sissi and Franz maintain a close bond with the royal couple there.
“The people of Grafinger supported and cheered us on enormously.
“We don’t want any sense of competition,” she emphasizes.

Therefore, this year's appearance by the imperial couple should also be a one-off event.
“We just wanted to bring a breath of fresh air into the club,” says Franz, who lived in Ebersberg Castle before his coronation.
“And of course gain new members,” adds Sissi.
Despite their comparatively few appearances, the imperial couple have a busy schedule.
As members of the carnival society, the two of them stand behind the bar with their crown and medals immediately after marching into the women's carnival in the folk festival hall. “It's really exhausting.
Meanwhile, we’re not carnival fans,” emphasizes Sissi.
