The windfall effect of social leasing, this government aid giving access to an electric vehicle to the most modest households, has exceeded all expectations.
It worked so well that, on Sunday evening, the Élysée announced that it was closing the window of this system just six weeks after having opened it.
The measure was to concern 20,000 to 25,000 households, the government indicated at the end of December.
It will ultimately be 50,000.
It could have been much more if the purse strings had remained wide open.
The amount of the State's boost was unprecedented and very generous: 13,000 euros per vehicle, which corresponds to the initial contribution generally requested by car manufacturers as part of a long-term rental contract.
As for the monthly rent, set by the manufacturers, it ranged for the 2024 vintage between 54 euros for the electric Twingo and 149 euros for the largest models, while Emmanuel Macron had set the objective at 100 euros...
