This is the largest single-day election in the world.
On February 14, Indonesia, a democracy of 17,000 islands, is organizing a double presidential and legislative election which will see 204 million voters (out of 277 million inhabitants) jostle to the polls.
After two terms, the outgoing president, Joko Widodo, aka “Jokowi”, cannot run again.
Kingmaker, he supports his former rival, big favorite in the polls, the current Minister of Defense.
The very authoritarian Prabowo Subianto is followed by Ganjar Pranowo, former governor of the capital, Jakarta.
While the reforms undertaken in recent years have made it possible to achieve the best growth in Southeast Asia, the vote determines a major project, the new futuristic capital called “Nusantara” (“archipelago” in Indonesian).
For the moment, the two leading candidates have suggested that they will continue the construction of this high-tech city.
