A judicial investigation was opened on Sunday in Toulouse for attempted murder against a thirty-year-old indicted for dousing his partner with gasoline and trying to set her on fire, the prosecution said on Monday.
The 32-year-old man had doused his partner with gasoline on February 7 in Saint-Jory (Haute-Garonne) then played in front of her with a lighter, before she managed to escape with the child she had had with a previous partner.
He then stole the victim's car and bank card, which meant he was also targeted for theft and fraud, and fled.
Found by the police in Perpignan after several days thanks to the report of the vehicle and the use of geolocation data from his phone, he was indicted and placed in pre-trial detention on Saturday.
The investigators must still
“clarify the facts precisely”
, specified the prosecution, according to which
“it seems”
that the suspect
“reproached (the victim) for having mentioned domestic violence on his part”
to a third party.
Known to the police, this individual had previously been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
