Roberto Salis, the father of Ilaria, an Italian antifascist facing 24 years in Hungary for allegedly attacking two Meonazis a year ago, said Wednesday that JusticeMinister Carlo Nordio should check his facts and past statements after the minister said the Salis family had wasted a year innot applying for house arrest amid recent controversy over herdetention conditions earlier.
"Minister Nordio is not informed of the facts. I prefer to have a different attitude from the minister, I ask him to check the facts and to check certain statements, which were very devastating on my wife. I expect an attitude from the institutions consistent with their work. If we get into a controversy with the family," said Salis, father of the 39-year-old Milanese elementary teacher detained in Budapest since last February.
Nordio said earlier Wednesday that Ilaria's relatives'unfortunately lost a year: if they had asked for immediatehouse arrest in Hungary, all this might not have happened'.
Roberto Salis also added: 'Nordio received me after 53 days since I first wrote to him in December'.
