On the key day of the tractors' protest, with the protest planned in the heart of the capital, Legambiente decides to respond to the farmers by dismantling what it defines as "the main fake news circulating in recent weeks", "real hoaxes that only smack of electoral campaigns, of gratuitous attacks on European green deal and the environment, while what is needed is a strong alliance between the agricultural and environmental world".

"It is not true that the green deal harms producers and consumers - writes Legambiente -, it is an environmental program designed and created with the aim of facilitating decarbonisation paths and is a necessary tool to counteract the effects of the climate crisis: in fact it constitutes the remedy and not the evil" .

"It is not true that the use of pesticides is essential to save agriculture - continues the NGO -, the truth is that their use does not guarantee that we can count on a greater agricultural yield or safeguard crops, but it is harmful both for the conservation of ecosystems which for human health and favors the dependence on the chemistry of the current agricultural model.

"It is not true that Europe obliges not to cultivate 4% of the land in order to speculate on the work of farmers - Legambiente writes again -, it is instead a measure that arises from aim of promoting defense against erosion and hydrogeological instability, increasing soil fertility and protecting biodiversity thanks to uncultivated areas, hedges, groves, ponds and ecosystem services".

"It is false to think that Europe wants to replace traditional foods with synthetic ones - concludes the NGO -.

Cultivated meat is not yet available in Europe and, therefore, in Italy.

Despite this, it is important to clarify that, in any case, it cannot replace meat produced from traditional breeding.

The real problem is, in fact, the intensive livestock breeding model which does not respect animal welfare and causes pollution of water, air and soil".
