In Mamoudzou (Mayotte)
A little over a year ago, Margaux went running with three friends on Mount Bénara, the highest point in Mayotte.
A few hundred meters from the summit, the small group, in single file, crosses paths with five young people.
“One of them was hooded and had a machete.
Very quickly, we were surrounded,
says this PE teacher who arrived six years ago in Mayotte.
They began to feel us, to touch us.
They took our caps, our watches.
They wanted phones but we didn’t have them with us.”
Annoyed by the frugality of the loot, the group gets angry and asks everyone to get on their knees.
One of the runners is grabbed by the collar and lowers his head to avoid a machete blow, which injures his back.
“It lasted a really long time.
They ended up asking us to take off our shoes.
Then they finally left
,” recalls the resident of Ouangani, in the center of the island.
