Georg Widmann always pitched in, even as deputy mayor.
He has now died at the age of 84.
Jesenwang - “The Schorsch, people liked him.” That's what Jesenwang's mayor Erwin Fraunhofer says about someone who worked for the community for decades and was extremely popular in the town: Georg Widmann, a Jesenwang veteran.
Widmann has now died at the age of 84.
“No problem, we’ll do it,” was one of Schorsch’s standard sentences, as everyone called him.
As a trained bricklayer, he always found solutions to practical problems.
He was involved in the construction of a new sports center and school, worked as a community worker to ensure that the town was well-maintained and worked to the limit of exhaustion in winter service to clear the streets of his hometown of snow and ice.
unity
The part-time farmer was also active at the local political level for a long time.
In 1984 he joined the local council for the first time for the “Unity” free voters list, and in 1990 he was elected deputy under Mayor Leonhard Dilger.
He played a key role in the construction of the sewer system and represented the community in both the “Obere Maisach” wastewater association and the Landsberied water association.
When Hans Wieser took over the executive chair in the town hall in 1996, it was important to him that Widmann - although not a CSU party friend - remained second mayor.
“I wanted an experienced colleague at my side,” says Wieser, looking back.
“Georg Widmann was an incredibly pleasant, loyal and helpful person.”
The incumbent mayor Erwin Fraunhofer already knew Widmann when he was still on the local council with Fraunhofer's father.
“He was deeply connected to the community.”
For advice
That didn't change as Widmann got older and his local political activities ended.
“He valued exchange and was always interested in what was going on in the town,” says Hans Wieser, who often stopped by his former deputy for advice.
He, in turn, enjoyed traveling on Jesenwang's streets in the Unimog when he wasn't at home looking after his pigeons.
Georg Widmann found his private happiness with his wife Maria.
In November 2023, the two celebrated their diamond wedding, including with their two daughters and three grandchildren.
Erwin Fraunhofer stopped by with a gift basket and enjoyed a cozy white sausage meal with the happy couple - not knowing that it would be the last.
Georg Widmann leaves a big gap in Jesenwang.
He was 84 years old.
