Proudly brandished Senegalese flags and refrains in tribute to Ousmane Sonko punctuated the march organized in Dakar on Saturday by the Aar Sunu Election collective (“Let's protect our election”), founded by civil society organizations after the announcement of the postponement of the presidential election.
The first demonstration authorized by the prefecture since this announcement, it brought together a few thousand people of all ages to demand respect for the electoral calendar, a
“success”
according to the organizers.
Assane Ndiaye, 76, got up early to respond to
“the call of the nation”
and demand
“respect for the Constitution”
.
“No one should stay home today!”
, he exclaims.
Behind him wave black signs on which we read:
“No to the constitutional coup d’état”
or even
“Free Senegal”
.
In the eyes of the citizens who came to march under the midday sun, there is no question that Macky Sall will remain in power after April 2, the end date of his mandate.
