The government will pass stronger work safety rules after Friday's supermarket building site collapse in Florence that killed five workers and brought back into the spotlight a spate of fatal workplace accidents, LabourMinister Marina Calderone said on a visit to the site on Sunday.
"At this time we have to look at what has happened with great respect and we will do all the necessary checks," she said.
"If there is also a need to intervene to make the rules even more incisive, we will do so.
"The government will not shy away from this issue.
"Safety at work must be a compulsory subject in schools too," she added.
