Massive traffic disruptions caused by holidaymakers and day-trippers are paralyzing Mittenwald and the surrounding area.
Mittenwald - According to the police report, there were massive traffic disruptions from late morning on Saturday due to the road network being overloaded by holidaymakers and day trippers.
Around midday, the Oberau and Farchant tunnels had to be switched to block handling.
The traffic disruption extended from the end of the A 95 motorway to the state borders of Mittenwald Scharnitz and Mittenwald Leutasch.
The market town of Mittenwald was particularly affected.
Here, vehicles crowded bumper to bumper through the local area for several hours.
Since traffic on the Mittenwald bypass has already come to a standstill due to the mass of vehicles, many tried to avoid the traffic jam through the Mittenwald area or were guided through the town by their navigation systems.
Since drivers in the local area repeatedly tried to avoid the traffic jam there, not only the main traffic routes in the town were blocked by the traffic jam, but also the side streets.
The outflow of the masses of cars from Mittenwald was extremely slow, as merging onto the B2 at the south junction was very hesitant.
Around 6 p.m. the situation eased and the traffic jam on the B2 cleared up.
The patrols from the Garmisch-Partenkirchen police station were busy throughout the afternoon keeping the escape routes clear and eliminating dangers caused by people on the road.
Many people got out of their vehicles and stepped onto the road, which resulted in dangerous situations on several occasions.
The Garmisch-Partenkirchen police station was in close contact with the community of Mittenwald and the Mittenwald volunteer fire department throughout the afternoon, which was also on duty with several vehicles.
