From summer onwards, minibuses and e-rickshaws will operate free of charge in the old town.
The city council has now approved the project.
Munich - Now the mini-buses are coming for the old town.
As our editorial team had already exclusively reported, microbuses and e-rickshaws will be running in the old town for three months this summer as a test.
The city council approved on Wednesday (February 21).
Minibuses and e-rickshaws are intended to make the old town more accessible to seniors and people with disabilities
As early as 2016, the green-pink city council faction first requested that the old town be made even better accessible with rickshaws and microbuses.
This should particularly benefit seniors, people with disabilities or illnesses, but also those who want to transport larger purchases or have luggage with them.
The offer will be available from June to August this year - free of charge and for everyone who wants to use it.
“What has long been possible in Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana and in Aix-en-Provence, for example, we should also be able to do in Munich,” says Green city councilor and mobility expert Paul Bickelbacher.
“Especially if we want fewer cars to drive and park in the old town, we have to offer good solutions for people with limited mobility.”
Green city councilor Gudrun Lux praises that minibuses and e-rickshaws for the old town will bring better mobility for everyone
City councilor Gudrun Lux (Greens) added: “I am very pleased that we are now getting this project on the road.
Better mobility for everyone, the desire for a high quality of stay and the concerns of retailers and restaurants complement each other perfectly and can be combined very well.”
