During the warning strike at the beginning of February, they left it at a 24-hour strike.

Now the employees of the Hochbahn and the Hamburg-Holstein transport company are supposed to stop work for 48 hours.

Hamburg - Hamburg's citizens will have to prepare for significant restrictions on local public transport next week.

The Verdi Hamburg trade union called on the employees of Hochbahn and Verkehrsbetriebe Hamburg-Holstein GmbH (VHH) to go on a 48-hour warning strike on Thursday.

The work stoppage will begin on Thursday at 3 a.m. and end on Saturday at 3 a.m., the union announced on Thursday.

The night buses from Friday to Saturday are also affected.

The background to the warning strike is the ongoing collective bargaining for the approximately 8,000 employees at Hochbahn and VHH, which are primarily about better working conditions and relief for employees.

Since the previous warning strike at the beginning of February, two rounds of negotiations at Hochbahn have been unsuccessful.

According to the union, Hochbahn continues to refuse to reduce regular working hours by half an hour.

The steps to implement a 35-hour week with full wage compensation are also still insufficient.

The so-called offer of half an hour from 2026 is not a serious offer.

“In two negotiation dates, we took every opportunity to make it clear to Hochbahn what relief was required based on the working conditions,” said Verdi negotiator Gabriel Riesner.

If this does not work, the employees would have to emphasize what they have said by going on strike.

The VHH made an offer for the first time, but it was completely inadequate and unsuitable for serious relief.

“Vacancies, high levels of sickness, increasing journey cancellations make us right that the burden is currently the decisive brake on a turnaround in transport,” said union secretary Domenico Perroni.

With its offer, the VHH shows that it has not recognized the seriousness of the situation.
