The number of fatal accidents in the PI Freising area increased last year compared to 2022.

Police Chief Inspector Robert Weller reported this.

Freising

- "The number of total accidents rose to 5,233 last year compared to 2022, which corresponds to around 4.51 percent," summarizes Robert Weller for the Freising police department: "In 2022 there were a total of 5,007 registered accidents."

The chief commissioner continued: “In the Freising district, the number of people killed in traffic accidents rose again to seven in 2023 (2022: four deaths).

In 2018 there were six traffic deaths and in 2016 there were even nine deaths.

However, there was a steady decline in the following years.

Only one fatal traffic accident occurred in 2021.

This was the lowest value in the last ten years.

Injured

The police are recording a slight downward trend in the number of injuries: in 2022, 557 traffic accidents with personal injuries were recorded.

In 2023, the number fell to 551. With 555

slightly injured people

in 2023 (565 in 2022), the police recorded a decrease of 2.28 percent compared to the previous year.

In 2019, 623 people were slightly injured.

However,

the number of

seriously injured people has increased slightly.

Weller: “In 2022, 87 people sustained serious injuries in road traffic.

In 2023, 91 people were seriously injured in traffic accidents in the PI area.

Main causes of accidents

Weller adds: “Errors when turning, turning, insufficient safety distance, failure to give way and excessive speed were the main causes of accidents.

The number of accidents has increased by a good 13 percent “due to insufficient safety distance.” “Unfortunately, speeding accidents have also increased: from 126 in 2022 to 138 cases in 2023.”

"Young adults"

In the Freising district, the involvement of so-called “young adults” (18 to 24 years old) in traffic accidents has also increased slightly.

While “young adults” were involved in 333 traffic accidents last year, the number of accidents in this group of people rose to 342 in 2023.

In the years before 2020, young adult participation was consistently above 400.

Hit and run

An increase of almost 4.11 percent was recorded in traffic accident escapes: 778 accident escapes were reported to the police stations in the Freising district in 2022, whereas 810 people who caused accidents fled in 2023.

The clearance rate was increased by 3.14 percent.

The police were able to solve 263 hit and run accidents and help the injured parties get their “justice and money”.

Accidents on the way to school

In the PI Freising area, 13 accidents on the way to school with 14 minor injuries occurred last year, while in 2022 there were still seven accidents on the way to school with seven injured students.

This means an increase of 85 percent compared to the previous year.

Robert WEller explains: “However, this is often due to individual events, such as children who were alone on their bikes and fell on the way to school and an ambulance and the police were called in.” However, the journeys to school have not become more dangerous: “Only the proportion of people with them The number of children riding bikes has increased significantly in recent years.” The number of accidents on the way to school compared to the comparative figures from Bavarian statistics as a whole is therefore very encouraging.

There have also been no reports of seriously injured schoolchildren in the Freising district for many years.

Weller: “The many volunteer school helpers who make an important contribution to road safety and support our weakest road users, the students, safely on their way to school and back home every day deserve great recognition.”

Cycling accidents

According to police statistics, 243 cycling accidents were registered in 2023, involving 261 cyclists, “of which 226 were injured, which corresponds to a slight decrease compared to 2022”.

“Fortunately, there were no fatal cycling accidents.

But: “A cyclist died in hospital from injuries he sustained at home while getting off his bike.”

Wildlife accidents

According to Robert Weller, the number of accidents involving wildlife remains high, accounting for 32.71 percent of the total number of accidents (5,233): “The Freising police had to record 1,712 accidents involving wildlife (previous year: 1,838).

In 1,523 cases, deer collided with vehicles, followed by 99 hares, 27 wild boars, 16 birds of prey, 23 foxes and 16 badgers.

In six wildlife accidents in 2023, two people were seriously injured and five people were slightly injured.

Most wildlife accidents occur between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m., between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. and in the night hours from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
