The “great debate” will not take place.
The presidential exchange, planned for this Saturday morning at the opening of an Agricultural Show marked by peasant anger, was canceled Friday evening by the Élysée due to a lack of participants.
The event will be replaced by a simple meeting between the head of state and the unions before his trip to Porte de Versailles.
The latter, FNSEA and Young Farmers (JA) in the lead, had announced a little earlier in the day their refusal to attend the
“freewheeling”
and
“unfiltered”
discussion planned by the Élysée this Saturday.
“The conditions for a more peaceful dialogue are not met and the dignity of farmers is violated by this approach which bears the mark of provocation”
, justifies the FNSEA, which also requires the cancellation of the debate in view of the
“climate of exasperation, and faced with the risks of overflow
.
