Highlights: Anniversary on the island: Dr. Dirk Hagena is advising on the subject of living wills for the 100th time. The association board for care in the district offers its consultations on living wills with decision-making aids for precautionary measures in the event of old age or illness once a month. “A living will with which you determine things yourself is just as important as the health care power of attorney,” says Hagena. Although 80 percent of Germans are informed about living wills, only 40 to 50 percent have one.

Jürgen Sklarek and social worker Claudia Mettler with the doctor Dr.

Dirk Hagena.

The former internist from Weßling held his 100th consultation on living wills and power of attorney on Monday afternoon on Gautinger Insel - on a voluntary basis.

The confidential individual consultations are “always fully booked,” emphasized Mettler at a press conference.

Those seeking advice often have great respect for the appointment.

“But due to the calm and professional charisma of Dr.

“They usually come away from the consultation happy and relieved,” explained the Gautinger Insel employee.

The association board for care in the district offers its consultations on living wills with decision-making aids for precautionary measures in the event of old age or illness once a month.

The collaboration with the doctor, who is also involved in the Namaste Foundation's Nepal aid, has been going on for 14 years, Mettler continued.

“As a doctor, I am happy when there is a living will,” emphasized Deputy Mayor Dr.

Sklarek, who works as a senior physician at the Asklepios Clinic.

“A living will with which you determine things yourself is just as important as the health care power of attorney,” says Hagena.

Because without a personal order, you are helplessly exposed to the legal guardian appointed by the court, who doesn't know you at all and has 40 to 45 cases.

“A living will for emergencies can never be made up for.”

This also affects young people, for example after a traffic accident.

Without a power of attorney, the court will appoint a legal guardian even for an 18-year-old.

“The parents receive no information.” Although 80 percent of Germans are informed about living wills, only 40 to 50 percent have one.

There is simply an inhibition about dealing with the end of one's own life.

“But if I can no longer control my senses, I need trusted representatives at all levels,” says the expert, who urgently recommends a living will with a health care power of attorney.

The optimal templates “Provision for accidents, illness and old age” from the Bavarian Ministry of Justice are available from CH-Beck-Verlag.

“If clients want that, we can fill it out together,” emphasizes the doctor.

Hagena arranges the Gautinger Insel at Grubmühlerfeldstraße 10 by calling (089) 45 20 86 77.
