Naively, Parisians thought that the Eiffel Tower, Paris' signature, was classified as a historic monument.
It is not so.
In a post on
“I don't understand what is stopping Paris City Hall from initiating this approach with the Ministry of Culture.
I am ready to receive this request in order to initiate the classification procedure as quickly as possible
,” writes the woman who is also mayor of the 7th arrondissement (that of the tower) and who does not hide her ambitions to take the helm of the town hall in 2026.
Formally, it is up to the municipality, the owner, to request a classification procedure.
Once voted on in the municipal council, the Eiffel Tower file would then be studied by the Ministry of Culture, then submitted for opinion to the National Commission for Heritage and Architecture (CNPA).
