The traffic lights have been on the driveway towards Lindau near Inning on the A 96 for less than a year now - and they keep producing long traffic jams.

The troubleshooting is ongoing.

The actual goal of avoiding accidents has been achieved.

Inning - Since September there has been a traffic light on the motorway entrance towards Lindau from the B 471 from Inning.

Previously, traffic accidents had repeatedly occurred at this point - similar to the intersection with the driveway towards Munich, until a traffic light system was installed there too.

According to the Weilheim State Building Authority, the number of accidents has since dropped to zero - but there are now long traffic jams.

“All the way to Arzla,” said Innings Second Mayor Monika Schüßler-Kafka (FW) on Tuesday in the local council when the traffic lights were an issue there.

Mayor Walter Bleimaier explained that work was only being done on the circuit last week.

The municipality was informed that the error had been corrected.

But on Tuesday morning the cars were there again, said Schüßler-Kafka.

“If someone accidentally saws the mast with a saw, you can understand that,” explained FBB local councilor Johann Ritzer angrily.

“It’s not like this every day,” explains Jacob Eberle from the State Building Authority when asked by Starnberger Merkur.

He receives calls from angry drivers who often find themselves stuck in traffic jams and watching how from the north there are often only two cars that have the green light, while cars in the opposite direction have free passage.

“Unfortunately, this happens again and again.

But we are working on it,” assures Eberle.

“That is absolutely undesirable.”

Building authority: “We hope the devil is in the details”

The traffic jam last Tuesday did not go unnoticed by the Weilheim authorities.

“We turned off the traffic lights immediately,” explains Eberle.

The people of Weilheim can easily follow the flow of traffic on the Internet.

“Everything is green at the moment,” says Eberle when he speaks to Starnberger Merkur.

“I hope the error has now been found.”

The manufacturers of both traffic light systems should meet again on site this week, because the traffic light on the driveway towards Munich is installed by a different company than the new one on the driveway towards Lindau.

“I hope that has nothing to do with it,” says Eberle when asked about it.

Rather, he suspects an error in the information sent by contacts in the road or from cameras.

To put it simply: If there is a car there, the traffic light switches.

It could be that one contact works “too well” and the others then have a traffic jam.

“We hope the devil is in the details and it is not a major problem,” said Eberle.

This is also the hope of all commuters and residents of Inning, who have been affected by the traffic jam more than once since September.

“I was already standing there and had to call the town hall to say I was late,” said building authority manager Michaela Meinhold at the meeting.
