Highlights: Between science and culture, The L∞p is a hit with Brest residents. A second “Little spatio-temporal tale” will be released on March 7. “We should, later in the year, move the structure to Châtelet in Paris, but it is still under discussion,” says Matthieu Courjeon, project manager and R&D manager in virtual reality at Cervval. ‘We have already welcomed more than 10,000 spectators inside the system,’ rejoices Alain Lelièvre, director of the Capucins.

This funny closed cylindrical structure, installed on the Capucins plateau in Brest (Finistère) until April 7, has already received more than

“Welcome to The L∞p.

Here, we are going to tell you a spatio-temporal story about this vague notion that is time - and the direction it seems to take us.

Once you enter this cylinder 5 meters high and 10 meters in diameter, all dressed in black, you find yourself in a screen room where strange images are projected.

This work of sound and light is called The L∞p, and reveals an immersive and interactive 360-degree tale, accessible free of charge during the opening hours of the Capucins.

Young and old (up to 19 people at a time) move happily around these 200m², making planets bounce with their feet, moving the threads of a symbolic chronology or even dancing the waves of a raging ocean with their hands .

Others remain contemplative and listen to the story.

Open to all audiences, this first seven-minute story, “La Flèche du temps”, offers a reflection between art and science on everyday questions.

“Almost between sociology and philosophy,” slips Matthieu Courjeon, project manager and R&D manager in virtual reality at Cervval (of the Tacthys group), who developed this project with the Science-art-société (Sas) group at the University of Paris -Saclay.

A structure that would like to travel… to France!

“It is Xavier Maitre, artist and researcher at SAS (Sciences art society) and at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), passionate about the Art-Science link, who wrote this text.

The idea being to know how we interact with space through a story about time and its passage.

Our role was to develop the visual and interactive side, to create scenes that will resonate with the text and to give spectators the opportunity to interact with the space.”

Success is there.

“We have already welcomed more than 10,000 spectators inside the system,” rejoices Alain Lelièvre, director of the SPL des Capucins – former naval workshops converted into a 20,000 m² cultural venue.

“The objective would be for her to find places all over France that want (and have the space) to welcome her,” says Matthieu Courjeon.

It is true that at the Capuchins, you can be quite free as the building is gigantic.”

The L∞p remains open in Brest until April 7.

A second “Little spatio-temporal tale” will be released on March 7.

“We should, later in the year, move the structure to Châtelet in Paris, but it is still under discussion,” concludes Matthieu Courjeon.
