It could have ended worse: After losing his footing, a man in Turkey barely escapes from falling into the depths.

Bursa – There are frightening scenes that took place in a ski resort in western Turkey.

On February 17, a man slipped from his seat in a chairlift while riding on a ski slope on Mount Uludağ, about three hours' drive south of Istanbul.

Only by using all his strength was the tourist able to avoid falling around ten meters into the depths, as the Austrian news portal

OE24

reports.

Video from a mountain guide shows: Man holds on to chair lift in last resort

Malaysian tourist guide Nik Ali Nik Muhamad captured the man's fight for survival with a handheld camera.

The video, shared on the social network Instagram, shows the man's efforts to save himself from major injuries as a result of an impending fall by holding on to the lift with both arms.

Although a fall from a comparable height does not necessarily have to be fatal, as was the case with a woman in South Tyrol who died after falling from a chairlift in January, it is likely to result in serious injuries.

In the Instagram video you can also see that the chairlift had already stopped when the man threatened to fall into the depths.

It dangles over the abyss for 40 long seconds, reports the Swiss news portal

First his companion gives him one hand, and when that doesn't work, he offers both hands to save him.

When that doesn't help, the mountain rescue service decides to slowly get the chair lift moving again.

Because the hanger and the man hanging from it are only a few meters away from the mountain station.

“It was really scary to see that,” writes the mountain guide from Malaysia who was present in his Instagram post with the video in question and continues: “I was the main witness and saw his fight from start to finish.” According to Muhamand the man screamed for help several times.

“He was really scared,” explains the mountain guide.

The Malaysian's video causes horror among his followers.

Many users ask how the accident could have happened.

The background to the event is still the subject of investigations.
