Once again, the Hohenfurch local council was concerned with the accommodation of refugees.

The committee has now agreed that residential modules should be set up at the southern exit of the town.

A “brake” was also included in the contract with the district office.

Hohenfurch - Now: After the previous local council meeting was, according to Mayor Guntram Vogelsgesang, “characterized by discontent”, the committee decided at the most recent meeting to lease the area south of the new building yard to the district office.

So that they can build accommodation there for around 30 refugees.

The Hohenfurchers' interest in the agenda was great: almost 20 citizens came to the meeting, which this time was calm and objective.

The contract with the district office includes a “brake”.

The municipality insisted that a clause be included stating that after the residential modules have been built, no further accommodation for refugees will have to be made available in Hohenfurch.

Because: “By accepting around 30 asylum seekers, we have met the two percent target,” calculated Vogelsgesang.

A private individual offered the area to the district office

“It remains to be seen whether this passage will be sustainable in the future,” says Vogelsgesang.

But the meeting of the district mayors in Hohenpeißenberg made him optimistic that the district office will keep its promises.

According to Vogelsgesang, the agreement to build the accommodation on this communal area brings with it another advantage: “The experience from 2015 has shown that asylum seekers are more likely to shop in Schongau than in town.” The property is on the southern exit of the town, that is closer to Lechstadt.

Local councilor Stefan Lukats also liked that.

“So we now have a say and the area is not in the middle of the town,” he referred to the alternative area that a private citizen had offered to the district office.

Markus Rieger was “just happy” that the topic of the thermal hall was off the table.

“This way is still the best,” he said.

Matthias Zeidlmaier also spoke out in favor of this and he hopes that the district office will soon have a solution to the kindergarten problem.

If the promised “mixed occupancy” comes about, the children would need a childcare option.

The decision that Mayor Guntram Vogelsgesang can now sign the contracts was made with a dissenting vote.
