Chancellor Olaf Scholz has once again ruled out the deployment of German soldiers in Ukraine.
“There will be no German or NATO troops on Ukrainian soil,” said the SPD politician on Tuesday in Emmendingen.
He said that in the so-called turning point speech shortly after the start of the Russian war of aggression.
Germany will support Ukraine.
Emmendingen - "But we will do everything we can - and that's what I stand for as Chancellor - to ensure that this war does not escalate, to a war between Russia and NATO." That is always the guiding principle of all decisions.
Scholz also reiterated his no to supplying Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine.
Here too, the basis is that German soldiers should not take part in the war, he said.
The weapon system is very far-reaching and needs to be programmed, for example.
Taurus is a precision weapon that can hit targets 500 kilometers away.
The Union calls for the Taurus missiles to be delivered to Ukraine.
The SPD's coalition partners, the Greens and FDP, are also mostly in favor of it and criticized Scholz for rejecting it.
