Brewery boss Andreas Steinfatt invited people to “Derblecken” for the last time on Wednesday.

He says goodbye on stage.

Munich – “Greetings, father of the fatherland!

Drink, best prince.” This is what the Latin saying “Salve pater patriae” means.

Bibas, princeps optime.” Traditionally, Derblecken at Nockherberg opens like this.

Andreas Steinfatt, head of the Hacker and Paulaner brewery, said the famous words for the last time on Wednesday (February 28th), so the applause swells again before he can even begin his speech.

There are no tears, but the 55-year-old stands on stage in a wine-red tailcoat, visibly wistful.

He spent 17 years inviting people to Salvator tastings and helped write the history of the brewery for three decades.

“As a native of Munich and a proud Bavarian, being responsible for this brewery was like arriving in Bavarian heaven for me,” he says.

It wasn't just a job for him.

“It was heart and soul, passion and privilege, but also responsibility and obligation.” They part on good terms, they say.

Steinfatt has not yet said what will happen next.

As he thanks three generations of the Schörghuber family, a murmur goes through the hall.

He then calls on the Prime Minister to come on stage.

“Pack mas, mia twoa,” he says.

One last time.

Then the mugs clink in the hall.
