While there were 1.6 million farmers in France in 1970, in 2024 we will “blithely” fall below the 350,000 mark, amid general indifference... Florian, a neighbor, “threw in the towel” in 2022. Nico, another neighbor, has decided to put his farm up for sale.
These two young neighbors, around 40 years old, both from a long line of farmers, are leaving their farms, leaving the land.
They make this decision because they can't take it anymore, they no longer have any prospects.
What we, society, are losing is not just two peasants who were toiling, it is also know-how, passed down from generation to generation, which suddenly stops!
Don't doubt it.
Agriculture, despite the tricks of its decision-makers, is doing badly, very badly.
At this rate, we will depopulate our countryside at high speed.
Because, it must be understood, our decision-makers have chosen for a long time…
