Special envoy to Ambérieu (Ain)
On the grounds of a former road center, white bungalows dot the parking lot.
In each prefabricated modular, 4 to 8 young migrants pile up on bunk beds.
The majority are Guineans or Ivorians, but also Cameroonians or Bangladeshis: there are 32 unaccompanied minors, taken care of or sheltered by child welfare, living in these barracks.
In the cramped dormitories, a few bags of belongings saved from their migratory journey litter the floor.
Often arriving by sea, many of them passed through Ventimiglia, in Italy, or more recently through Switzerland.
This new accommodation for unaccompanied minors opened in mid-January in Ambérieu, in Ain.
“Installing modulars on land that belongs to us was the quickest solution to increase our capacities
,” explains Bérangère Novel, child adoption manager of the department.
Barely opened, the center is already full.
