The government of Premier Giorgia meloni has made several moves to address the issue of violence against teachers in Italian schools after a spate of incidents perpetrated by both students and parents.

On February 8 research agency Eurispes said one in four Italian high school teachers has been attacked by a student at least once in their careers, after a teacher was stabbed in the back by an angry student near Milan a few days previously.

Further, the polling institute said some 17.6% of teaching staff had been threatened by students.

Overall, in the entire school system, one in 10 teachers have been attacked and 16% had been threatened at least once, said Eurispes, publishing its second report on Italian schools and universities.
