The traditional Holzland Kern store in Eglharting (municipality of Kirchseeon) is closing its doors forever.

The search for a new user for commercial space on the federal highway is ongoing.

The specialist store is starting a sale.

Eglharting

– Final end for Holzland Kern in Eglharting (municipality of Kirchseeon).

It ends on April 20th.

The company premises on the B 304 at the town exit heading west towards Zorneding is to be sold or leased.

Managing director Michael Wirsam confirmed this to the Ebersberger Zeitung when asked.

Kirchseeon's mayor Jan Paeplow (CSU) is informed about the development.

“We definitely want to preserve the property as a commercial location,” is his reaction.

After all, the area is in a good location.

The municipality offers help when looking for a new user.

However, there is currently no new information on the subject in the town hall.

The Holzland Kern company had already run into economic difficulties around ten years ago, at the hands of what was then the traditional local family business Kern.

The company headquarters was formerly a sawmill in Kirchseeon an der Bahn, where the bridge now leads to the high school.

At that time, Wirsam stepped in as an investor after bankruptcy.

He comes from the industry and is based near Göttingen.

Holzland is also a supra-regional association.

Now it's over.

“This decision was driven by massive changes in our environment,” said Wirsam.

He cites competition from growing large hardware stores in the Munich area as one of the reasons for the closure.

This was already an issue a decade ago.

The situation has now apparently worsened.

Another point, according to the managing director, is the increased competition from Internet providers.

And according to him, it's about the crisis in the construction sector and the shortage of skilled workers.

Over for Holzland Kern in Eglharting: Several reasons for closure

The company in Eglharting will be selling off inventory with discounts from March 11th.

The campaign should last until it closes.

What is not sold would be loaded onto trucks and driven to the company headquarters in Göttingen, said Wirsam.

“We have an advantage.

The offers are largely identical.”

The employees on site were informed of the closure in advance.

“Fortunately, it is not a problem for them to find a job in the Munich region,” said the managing director.

Some of the employees would initially remain at the location.

“There are still a lot of things that need to be handled.” Additional staff would be needed for the sales.

Difficult farewell for the former owner too

It is a difficult farewell for Josef Kern, the former owner.

“That was our family business.” The sawmill was opened in 1928.

The company had to move from its old location once when the S-Bahn was expanded.

The new Eglharting location was initially successful.

But mistakes were also made, admits Kern.

The company went bankrupt in 2013.

“It’s nice that at least the name was retained afterwards,” said Kern.

He initially stayed with the company as a consultant, later left, but continues to work in the industry.

According to Kern, one problem could have been that the company was not managed from Bavaria and some products for the regional market were removed from the range.
