Klagenfurt (AP) - The Munich Champions League winner David Alaba is in the squad of the Austrian national team for the first international matches after the forced Corona break.
National soccer coach Franco Foda also nominated Konrad Laimer and Marcel Sabitzer from the premier class semi-finalist RB Leipzig. The Austrians will meet Norway in the Nations League on September 4th in Oslo and then against Romania on September 7th in Klagenfurt. There are a total of 18 German legionnaires in the 23-man squad.
The German national coach Joachim Löw, on the other hand, voluntarily waives the four Munich Champions League winners Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry in his line-up for the Nations League games against Spain and Switzerland. The Leipzig semi-finalists Lukas Klostermann and Marcel Halstenberg also get special leave.
That was "his business," said Foda. "Marcel Sabitzer and Konrad Laimer had a week off after they went out," he said, referring to the 3-0 win against Paris Saint-Germain on August 18th. The feedback was "very, very positive". "I communicated with David very often via WhatsApp," continued Foda. "There was no negative feedback either, so I'm assuming that all the players will come to the national team at the weekend and that I will use them."
