Cruel for Marc Hirschi.
Despite his solo raid, the Swiss saw the stage victory, the ninth in the Tour de France, between Pau and Laruns, escape him this Sunday.
In a group which included the Sunweb runner, but also Egan Bernal, Mikel Landa, Primoz Roglic and Tadej Pogacar, who had caught up with him in the last few hundred meters, it was ultimately the latter who settled the final sprint for skip the line first.
The other Slovenian Primoz Roglic, big favorite at the start of the Grande Boucle, finished second in front of Hirschi and took the opportunity to grab the yellow jersey.
