"The back is best for me"

SV Kranzberg: Florian Edlhuber is a permanent fixture in the defensive inventory of the district league team

The first thing that catches your eye with Florian Edlhuber is the dark curls. At second glance, the inclined football fan notices at SV Kranzberg games that a fast-paced central defender in the defense center destroys one chance after the other. "He is an extremely good two-fighter who is not the tallest at 1.80 meters, but still wins almost every duel in a defensive header," says his trainer Anton Kopp. “He's also extremely fast, a good footballer and has outstanding game intelligence. He sees the area where the mistake happens and ironed it out. ”Although only 22 years old, Florian Edlhuber is extremely important for the SCK regional league team. It is also advantageous for the central defender to playthat the US sports fan has been playing for Kranzberg since the B-youth and has known most of the team for years.

Flo started his football career as a six-year-old at the home club FCA Unterbruck in Fahrenzhausen.

In addition to the father, the uncle and grandpa had already played there.

In the first few years he was a striker.

When he moved to TSV Eching in the C-youth, he moved up to the sixth position.

In retrospect, it was a turbulent time in Eching with a high level of coach wear, the 22-year-old recalls.

There were not enough players for the B-youth and so he went to Kranzberg, where he found a good team, into which he was quickly integrated.

A reliable defender even in the A-youth

In the A youth he won the Sparkasse Cup twice with the SCK and was promoted to the district league. Always there in defense: Florian Edlhuber, who meanwhile says: “I am most good at the back!” Because in central defense you can also put emphasis on the front. “I like to defend this goal and fight one-on-one or run off strikers. I also enjoy opening the game from behind, which is why I would say that this is my favorite position, ”says the trained electronics technician, promoting a field position that is often underestimated.

When transitioning to the senior level, he would have had to get used to the harder style of play and the higher speed.

He succeeded very quickly, because in the season 18/19 he celebrated his previous sporting highlight with the district league championship of SV Kranzberg.

Coach Anton Kopp used the 18-year-old in 23 league games because he was already convinced of its quality back then.

Exercise-diligent and calm

The trainer describes his protégé as a hard-working, calm guy who is also fully immersed in training. Sport is Edlhuber's great passion, which is why he tries out a lot besides football. Basketball, football and occasionally tennis are also among his activities. The single also likes to cook his own vegetarian cuisine and has been doing this in his own apartment in Pfaffenhofen for several months. In their free time, film fans like to go to the cinema or watch films and series on TV. Of course only if no US sport is running. For example, the Packers fan’s Sunday evening is all about the NFL. He's a football fan of 1860 because there are many in the family in his 60s, and he went to the stadium as a child and stayed there.

His footballing role models Zidane and Messi are a relic from earlier childhood strikers' days.

The 22-year-old has not given any thought to great career aspirations in football.

Much more important is that things go better with the SVK after the winter break.

“We are currently on the relegation place and a secured midfield position would be a dream.
