The game is still lost.

The Tölzer Löwen lost 1:3 in Selb and met the Lausitzer Foxes in the play-downs.

Selb/Bad Tölz – When it came to warming up for the play-downs, one thing became clear: the Tölzer Löwen need to set their sights better than they did in the last main round game on Monday evening.

With 1:3 the decimated Tölzer lost at DEL 2 bottom Selber Wölfe.

Not because they were worse, had less of the game.

But because they didn't score from a number of chances, didn't use their majority situations.

"Selb is now a good team, they have strengthened themselves," says Löwen coach Kevin Gaudet.

Lions despair of exploiting chances and Bitzer

The hosts converted their chances coldly, scoring twice at the beginning of the third and having a strong backing in Michael Bitzer.

Jimmy Hertel was in goal for Tölz.

Coach Kevin Gaudet probably wants to rest Josef Hölzl before the playoffs.

Just like Tyler McNeely, Ian Brady and Markus Eberhardt.

The top performers are stricken, got a break.

The DNL players Anton Engel, Dominik Gißibl and Niklas Hörmann ran for it.

And immediately following behind: The Canadian newcomer to the Selber, Daniel Leavens, took the measure and threw the disc right into the tiny gap between Hertel's helmet and the post.

The lions hardly showed their manageable pride.

In power play, Lubor Dibelka failed alone in front of Bitzer, Maximilian Leitner from half left and Pascal Aquin freely in the slot with their top-class players at the Wölfe keeper.

More chances followed, but only after the break again a goal.

Selb scored again a good two minutes after the restart.

Lars Reuss sank the disc from a distance using Hertel's catch hand to make it 2-0.

Foiled the shutout for the strong keeper

Again the lions missed good chances - Dibelka on the power play after a nice pass from Aquin.

But many disc losses followed in the middle third.

The lions missed another power play and failed with big chances against the strong Bitzer.

However, they still messed up the keeper's shutout: Ironically, ex-Selber Aquin scored to make it 1:3 after Lukas Vantuch had just shot the 3:0 into the empty goal.

Dominic Bohac stays in the dressing room

"The goal was to get through without injuries," says Gaudet.

That didn't quite work: Dominic Bohac got a shot in the middle section and then didn't play anymore.

He and the rest of the injured Löwen now have until Wednesday 16 March to regenerate when the Löwen start their best-of-7 round against the Lausitzer Füchse.

"I hope that some players will come back by then," says Gaudet.

"We have to defend our homeland against relegation."

Same wolves - Tölzer Löwen 3: 1 (1: 0, 1: 0, 1: 1)

Goals: 1: 0 (2:36) Leavens (Slavetinsky), 2: 0 (22:07) Reuss (Walters/Gelke), 3: 0 (58:17) Vantuch (Schwamberger/Gelke), ENG), 3: 1 (59:37) Aquin (Horschel/Merl), – penalty minutes: Selb 8, Tölz 4, – referee: Steinecke/Gossmann, – spectators: 655.
