(S+) What did Boris Becker do with his money?

2022-04-07T04:09:14.427Z

Creditors are demanding around 60 million euros from Boris Becker. Now he faces up to seven years in prison for not properly disclosing his assets. What happened?

A win makes him a star: Boris Becker's career began at Wimbledon almost 37 years ago.

Professionally, he became world famous – private affairs, marriages and a conviction for tax evasion followed.

In 2017 there will also be bankruptcy proceedings.

The authorities keep complaining about Becker's willingness to cooperate.

He hides accounts and conceals assets.

That's why he is currently facing criminal charges, and the jury has been meeting since Wednesday to pass judgment on Becker.

If things go badly for Becker, he even faces a prison sentence, the maximum being seven years in prison.

SPIEGEL reporter Marc Hujer met Boris Becker at the beginning of his insolvency proceedings and is now observing the process in London.

In this episode of SPIEGEL Daily, he tells how Becker justifies his confused financial situation in court: "He tried to show that he has no control over his life." The allegations are about apartments that Becker doesn't want to know about, and about trophies that he supposedly can't find anymore.

How credible is the tennis legend?
