ÖFB hammer!
According to the "Kurier", Ralf Rangnick has reached an agreement with the Austrian Football Association.
He should be the new national coach.
Vienna - According to a report by the
Kurier
, Ralf Rangnick is to become team boss of the Austrian national football team.
A "sensation" is looming, the newspaper wrote in its online edition on Thursday.
According to this, association president Gerhard Milletich wants to present Rangnick to the presidium “as a favorite” for the post this Friday.
Rangnick's advisor Martin Hägele told the German Press Agency on Thursday that, as always, he would not take part in speculation.
In this context, he also referred to a report in the newspaper according to which Rangnick should have met with ÖFB sports director Peter Schöttel at the beginning of the month.
The association itself denied this.
The Austrians failed to qualify for the World Cup finals in Qatar at the end of the year.
Franko Foda then announced his departure.
The now 56-year-old former Bundesliga professional had trained the selection since November 2017.
In the search for a successor for the German coach, the association was recently in contact with former Bundesliga professional Andreas Herzog and former Bundesliga coach Peter Stöger.
After this season, Rangnick will only be active as a consultant at Manchester United when the contract of the 63-year-old native of Swabia expires as a coach at the traditional English club from the Premier League.
