Relegation to the Bayernliga: VfB Hallbergmoos can also get over the late equalizer to the 2-2 final score in Regensburg.

Hallbergmoos

– The starting position in the first of two rounds of relegation to the Bayernliga is good and could have been a lot better.

With a free kick in the last second, VfB Hallbergmoos conceded the 2:2 (1:0) equalizer after leading twice at SC Fortuna Regensburg.

In principle, the Bayern league team can live with the result at home before the second leg on Saturday.

Relegation games are often exciting and there are other factors involved.

The minimally small place of the state league second in the capital of the Upper Palatinate takes some getting used to, the spectators who felt like they were standing on the sidelines gave the task a special touch.

After the end of the game, VfB coach Matthias Strohmaier saw his prediction that the state league runners-up had a strong team at their disposal confirmed.

In spite of everything, VfB clearly showed who is the Bavarian league team on the field.

Except for a small urge phase at the beginning of the second half, the offensively strong opponent was well under control, consistently winning the duels and not allowing much.

The half-time lead after 45 minutes with a few goals scored by both sides was a bit lucky, but not undeserved.

After a long throw, the ball bounced up between everyone in the penalty area, and then Simon Werner's toe caught the ball faster than the goalkeeper.

Regensburg had their strongest phase immediately after the break and tested the usual strong Martin Dinkel twice.

The hosts deserved the equalizer when Moritz Mühlrath actually had the ball under control in his own five, but Arlind Morina surprised VfB with his pursuit.

Strohmaier's respectful titling of the Regensburg attackers ("Kleine Zocker") hit the scene quite well.

However, the state league then gambled away with its not always secure defensive and almost gambled away everything.

When Hallbergmoos took the lead again, the goalkeeper punched the ball too short in the turmoil, and Tobias Krause headed the ball that immediately returned into the penalty area into the empty goal.

Shortly thereafter, VfB had a kind of match point when a trio outnumbered ran a counterattack.

Krause hit the bottom of the bar, just missing the 3-1 by centimeters.

In the final phase Andi Kostorz saw yellow-red, but the Hallbergmooser held on to the 2:1.

Until well into stoppage time, when the referee whistled for a free kick, which was perhaps due to the heated atmosphere in the stadium.

Away from the action, there was a tussle with Dennis Hammerl, and Tobias Zöllner curled the free kick over the wall in the 96th minute.

At the same time as the goal was also over.

He only mourned the lost counterattack to make it 3:1 and made it clear that everything was fine.

There has been a lot of activity in their own stadium in recent weeks, with several hundred fans often supporting their own team.

Strohmaier is hoping for similar or even more support in the second leg on Saturday (4 p.m.).

It helps to know that you can get ahead with a low tie.
