Summary: Hapoel Beer Sheva - Maccabi Haifa 2: 2 (1: 3 on penalties) (Sport 1)

It happened seven years and a week ago: Hapoel Beer Sheva advanced to the cup final against the champion and fell apart.

The cup final of the 2014/15 season ended with the astronomical and embarrassing 6: 2 result for Maccabi Tel Aviv, which completed a win in the treble and all at the expense of its eternal rival (from those two years) - Hapoel Beer Sheva.

This result more or less reflected the power gap between the two teams at the time - Maccabi is strong, massive, powerful and with a predatory character and Beer Sheva is talented, combative, nice - but breaks in a minute and a third.

And here on Tuesday of this week - a makeover.

Hapoel Beer Sheva reached the cup final against the champion, won twice again but this time did not lose, but on the contrary - was better, was dragged to overtime and penalties and won almost easily in the decisive kicks.

Aliniv Barda and Dor Micha played in that final, the first in Be'er Sheva and the second in Maccabi Tel Aviv.

By Tuesday of this week they were both already on the same side, Barda on the lines and Micha Fatah in the Beer Sheva squad, and from the other side stood the most significant man for Hapoel Beer Sheva from that damn Cup final - even though he did not take part in the game at all - Barak Bachar.

A lot has changed since that final.

If we ignore the neighborhood display in the defense of Maccabi Haifa, which conceded two goals that are not supposed to concede in a training game at the beginning of the summer against Neve Yosef, then ironically, Bachar can only complain about the loss in this week's final.

He is the one who took Hapoel Beer Sheva in the summer of 2015 - a broken, defeated, almost "small" team, and turned it into a title-devouring monster: three championships (with Bachar himself) and two trophies (when Bachar has already left) are a glorious supplier - more than Maccabi Haifa itself. If you look at the last ten years.

Beer Sheva made this leap, among other things, through players who were more suited to the mentality required of a team that wants to upgrade its status and become a significant force - but mainly in the way of thinking.

It could be seen very nicely in this week's cup final: Beer Sheva was better, calmer and ultimately also more efficient.

Losing an advantage in the cup final when there are less than ten minutes to go is a piece of cake - when it happened to Maccabi Netanya, for example, in the final of 2018/19, you could hear from every corner of the stadium that something was broken in the fighting spirit of the team.

It did not happen to Be'er Sheva this week, but on the contrary - even in overtime, the better situations were for the team from the Negev (again, courtesy of the neighborhood defended by Maccabi Haifa - and regardless of the young goalkeeper Roi Fox).

You will need to work smart.

Now, with another degree in the closet, Alona Barkat will have to do some thinking and decide how, by how much and where she will upgrade Hapoel Beer Sheva next season.

Naturally, Maccabi Haifa's chances of taking a third consecutive championship are lower than the chances it had of winning the championship at the beginning of the season that has just ended.

On the other hand, Maccabi Tel Aviv has not won the championship for two years, and it is doubtful that it will allow itself to take another summer nap only to wake up in January and realize that it has lost another year.

Therefore, Hapoel Beer Sheva, the third wing in this story, will have to work wisely: in the end it has a not bad staff at all and as we saw this week (and not for short periods throughout the season) also serious mental resilience, but the fact that it was not enough against Maccabi Haifa this year.

There is a good situation that some correct and accurate reinforcements for the existing cadre will do the job for Be'er Sheva next season.

The biggest question mark, by the way, is actually coach Aliniv Barda.

He had an amazing three months on the lines in his youth team, and there is certainly room to ask what would have happened if he had accepted the team in January rather than early March.

But, and this is a huge but: Barda's real test, despite all the obstacles he has overcome in the last three months, is precisely next season: the distance between getting a team as an emergency coach and taking it forward and taking the team from July to achievements towards the end of May is huge.

Meanwhile, the match between Barkat and Barda seems to be working well for both, which will give the coach an industrial quiet and probably also make it easier for him to get the players he will require.

But again, these would mean that you have to spend for these processes.

So the eyes are on the next season: it will be interesting to see if Breda knows how to spread Alona's checks on the right investments and at the same time manages to combine the league with Europe - not an easy task in itself.

If that happens, it could be that the trophy that Beer Sheva won this week is just the beginning of a new and spectacular dynasty.
