'Hooray, hooray, the royals are here': These Real Madrid fans will probably have struck up a different battle chant.

Either way: Real had qualified for this final with outstanding catch-ups – against Paris, Chelsea and Manchester City.

The atmosphere in the Real camp was correspondingly exuberant.

On the other hand, the opponent was significantly more tense: Superstar Thiago had already suffered a minor injury in the last game in the Premier League, and now he had to stop the warm-up program.

That was also a heavy blow for Jürgen Klopp, but then the turning point: Thiago was able to play.

Things didn't go according to plan for the organizers of the final.

The start of the game had to be postponed several times because numerous Liverpool fans were not in the stadium when the game was scheduled to kick off.

There were also reports that fans had entered the arena without tickets.

The scenes at the entrance were chaotic.

The ball only rolled at 9:36 p.m., 36 minutes later than planned.

According to eyewitness reports, some fans with tickets are said to have waited more than two hours at the stadium gates.

The police are also said to have cracked down on English fans.

Unworthy scenes for a final.

You know each other, both coaches embody world class, when Ancelotti was Everton coach (from 2019 to 2021), the two coaches also dueled in the Premier League.

A post shot by Liverpool's Sadio Mané in the 21st minute, another attempt by the "Reds": Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois could not complain about not enough work in the first half.

Madrid superstar Karim Benzema - 44 goals in 45 competitive games this season - was almost on the men's list again, but his strike just before half-time was ruled out because it was ruled offside.

A controversial scene, and one of Real's few outings in front of the Liverpool goal.

A sharp cross from Federico Valverde, Vinícius Júnior pushed the ball over the line at the back post – Real's opening goal was done.

The antennas are going up - it's party time: Four years ago, the 21-year-old Brazilian Vinícius switched to Real, meanwhile he has long been a fixture.

He is already at 170 competitive games for the Spaniards.

Big party?

Well, not all of them.

Real coach Ancelotti is part of the "Relax" team anyway, and even after the opening goal he asked not to celebrate too early.

Mo Salah went into the final with an outstanding season and left no stone unturned there.

However, like his team-mates, the Liverpool striker was just not to be lucky.

Again and again the English found their master in Real keeper Courtois.

There was nothing more to be done.

Real didn't give in and didn't allow the equalizer anymore.

Toni Kroos and Luka Modrić – two Real legends who are once again at the top.

After the game, Kroos, now a five-time Champions League winner, had to go directly to ZDF for an interview.

But the German superstar was visibly dissatisfied with the reporter's questions, and Kroos ended the conversation prematurely.

The 32-year-old then continued to celebrate with his team.

Cheering and sadness – both very close together.

With this result it is also clear that Europa League winner Eintracht Frankfurt will meet Real Madrid in the fight for the Uefa Supercup.
