The award ceremony in the district cup was again a big deal.

And yet it was a special event this year, because two ski stars had come to Weilheim.

Weilheim – Despite all the technical innovations in the material, skiing is based on tradition.

Part of such a tradition is that the overall award ceremony in the district cup is always a huge event.

After all, hundreds of children and young people receive their certificates and trophies.

It was no different this year, in which the ski department of TSV Weilheim acted as organizer for the second time in a row.

And yet a tradition was broken.

Because, unlike usual, there was not only one star guest, but even two sports stars who paid their respects to the young ski racers.

Andrea Filser and Dominik Schwaiger as star guests

Andreas Filser (World Cup rider and team medal winner at the World Championships) and Dominik Schwaiger (World Cup rider and German Super-G champion) came to the stadium on Pollinger Strasse.

They made for a relaxed atmosphere.

According to a statement, both presented themselves as quick-witted in interviews with young drivers.

Schwaiger also competed against some youngsters in a goal wall shootout and won.

The most important part was of course honoring the participants in the district cup.

Around 250 young athletes came with their relatives and supervisors.

Last season, around 360 ski racers from 21 clubs took part in the race series, which was held for the first time 45 years ago.

Venues were Unterammergau and Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Guests of honor praise the commitment of parents and carers

Eckart Walchshöfer, department head of TSV Weilheim, led through the award ceremony.

As guests of honor he welcomed Michael Marksteiner (who came as deputy for district administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß), Alfred Honisch (3rd mayor), Katrin Eissler (1st chairwoman of the Skigau Werdenfels) and Fritz Dopfer senior (Vice President of the Bavarian Ski Association).

The guests from politics and sport praised the commitment of the young athletes.

At the same time, they thanked the officials and parents, without whose commitment the training and races would not have been possible.

Skigau chairman Eissler emphasized the large number of participating clubs, which illustrated the importance of the racing series.

"Keep it up.

The next district cup is waiting for you,” she said to the ski racing community along the way.
