When England's footballers took a stand against racism in Hungary, they were booed. Before the Nations League game in Munich, the German team is now kneeling at their side – like last year at Wembley.

The German national soccer players will kneel before the kick-off of the Nations League game against England as a sign against racism.

Midfielder Ilkay Gündogan announced this before the game on Tuesday (8.45 p.m., TV: ZDF) in the Allianz Arena in Munich, which is expected to be sold out.

"We will get on our knees again with the English," said 31-year-old Gündoğan on Monday in the DFB headquarters in Herzogenaurach.

They want to support the action of the English, it is "a very good thing," said Gündogan, who plays for the English champions Manchester City,

There was also a kneeling together a year ago at the European Championships before the German round of 16 at London's Wembley Stadium.

"We did it back then and are therefore joining forces again now," said Gündoğan.

Kneeling was briefly discussed in the team: "Nobody was against it."

Last Saturday, the English team got on their knees shortly before kick-off in the game in Budapest against Hungary as a sign against racism.

Then boos could be heard from the audience.

Because of the discriminatory behavior of its fans in the European Championship games against Portugal, France and Germany, Hungary's association was sentenced to two Uefa home games without spectators.

This penalty was later reduced to one game.

There were still around 30,000 spectators in the stadium against England, including numerous school children.

According to the regulations of the European football union Uefa, children up to the age of 14 may enter the stadium for closed-door games if they are invited and accompanied by an adult.
