Why Peugeot is not taking part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans this year

The French manufacturer preferred to postpone its big return to Endurance to the 6 Hours of Monza on July 11. A carefully considered choice.


Peugeot formalized on Tuesday the date of its big return to Endurance after more than ten years of absence.

It will not be at the 24 Hours of Le Mans which will take place this weekend in the Sarthe but at the 6 Hours of Monza, on the occasion of the fourth round of the World Endurance Championship on July 11.

The French manufacturer therefore misses the reunion with the biggest race in the discipline for only one month.

A disappointment, inevitably, for the fans who still hoped in recent months to see the two Lionesses baptized 9X8 fight against the Toyotas, the Alpine and the Glickenhaus, in a queen category with sparse ranks.

But when the return to Endurance was announced in November 2019, the brand had simply mentioned a return to the World Championship by 2022, without giving a precise date.

A participation in the Le Mans race was for a time hoped for in the ranks of Peugeot Sport which, however, quickly ruled out this possibility, despite the high expectation...
