Olympic champion in hammer throwing, Poland's Anita Velodrzyk, announced today (Saturday) that she will have to undergo surgery, after being injured after a fight with a thief who tried to break into her car.
Vladrzyk, 36, who became the first woman to win an Olympic title in a personal competition for the third time in a row after winning gold at the Tokyo Olympics, said the thief was an "unknown person."

"I caught the thief alone and turned him over to the police," Vladarzik wrote in a post, in which she posted a picture of her car, which had abrasion marks on it.
"Unfortunately I paid for it with a muscle injury. And after I got an initial diagnosis, I will have to have surgery on Monday."
The Polish athlete, who is considered one of the best of all time in the country, will try to recover from her injury as soon as possible, in order to make it and participate in the World Championships in Oregon to be held in July, where she can win the world title for the fifth time.
