National coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg can well imagine extending her contract, which expires after the 2023 World Cup, in the long term.
"I would really like it," said the 54-year-old from "Sport-Bild".
Voss-Tecklenburg is currently causing a stir with the players of the national team at the European Championships in England and has led the team to the semifinals against France this Wednesday.
“If I can continue to be a part of it, it would be a great gift and privilege.
I think this European Championship will help if we get together at the end of the year to discuss how to proceed," said the former international.
Joti Chatzialexiou, sporting director for national teams, said: "It's good to hear that Martina sees her future as national coach.
It was important to us to play this European Championship.
We'll talk after the tournament."
He went on to say: "I would not like to go to a World Cup with the national coach's contract expiring.
There is no question: we will give the DFB Presidium the sporting recommendation to extend Martina's contract".
The leadership of the association would then have to agree to this.
The chances are good
Voss-Tecklenburg himself said that the coaching team already had a vision of 2027 – then Germany should host the World Cup together with the Netherlands and Belgium.
"If I could really be the national coach by 2027, then I'll be 60," she said.
"In the DFB, we basically have the philosophy of concluding two-year contracts, because then we can think from tournament to tournament.
I can share Martina's vision of a possible home World Cup with her in 2027," Chatzialexiou said, according to Sport Bild.
Voss-Tecklenburg led the DFB team to the semi-finals of the current European Championship on Wednesday (9 p.m., TV: ZDF, DAZN) against France.
Hosts England are already in the final.
For the first time since Olympic gold in 2016, the two-time world and eight-time European champion is fighting for a place in the final of a major tournament.
The DFB team has not yet qualified for the upcoming World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Voss-Tecklenburg has been the national coach since 2018.
