Embarrassing end for SpVgg Unterhaching in the first round of the Toto Cup: The regional league leader is thrown out at the district league club Feuchtwangen.

Unterhaching

– In the run-up to SpVgg Unterhaching's first-round game in the Bavarian Toto Cup at the Middle Franconian district league team TuS Feuchtwangen, the coaching team had given the direction of "not going on a company outing" to Feuchtwangen.

Involuntarily, however, this game ended up with this so-please-not specification, because the team from the regional league leaders largely failed against the team from Middle Franconia, who played three classes lower.

After a score of 0:0 after 90 minutes, Hachinger lost 3:5 in the penalty shoot-out that followed.

The fact that Hachinger Leo Gabelunke missed the decisive penalty kick from the penalty spot caused less disappointment among those responsible than the performance offered over the previous 90 minutes of the game.

In these, SpVgg, who had traveled almost exclusively with players from the second row, failed to take advantage of numerous scoring opportunities and ensure a decision in regular time.

Hachinger players failed miserably several times in front of the opposing goalkeeper Jens Lindörfer.

SpVgg coach Sandro Wagner sees "good teaching for the boys"

Haching's head coach Sandro Wagner found clear words about the bitter cup end.

"It was a highlight game for Feuchtwangen, and there were too many on the pitch who just wanted to take the game with them and obviously didn't lead the game with the intensity necessary to do it.

We deservedly been kicked out," said Wagner.

"It was a good lesson for the boys.

Especially for those who are behind and in a bad mood at one point or another when they are not playing.

Today they saw why they don't play."

With Markus Schwabl, Josef Welzmüller, Simon Skarlatidis, Max Lamby and Sandro Porta, there were only five players on the field who were last in the starting eleven in the 4-0 victory in the regional league against Illertissen.

All other players had either not received any playing time with the regional league or had recently played for the Hachinger U 21 in the state league.

Wagner missed the necessary bite for some actors.

The coaching team should not be able to completely acquit themselves of the defeat either.

Because an emergency plan with established regular players on the substitute bench was dispensed with, which later turned out to be too naive an approach.

Without a single veteran on the bench, especially the strong assist provider Sebastian Maier on the offensive or the two top scorers Patrick Hobsch and Mathias Fetsch (with already four goals from the first two regional league games), the coaching team was able to face the tight game in Feuchtwangen no longer react adequately and no longer add personnel.

"We need to talk now.

It's a shame for our fans, of course.

We told them before this season that we want to go far in the Toto Cup.

That did not work.

So it's a tough defeat for us that we have to deal with first," said Wagner.
