After the 0:4 win over Sweden in the semi-finals yesterday in London, the English are excited for the final to be held at Wembley • Dutch coach Serena Wichman: "From the beginning there was a click between me and the players"

The England women's team made history last night (Tuesday) when they qualified for the Euro finals held in the country.

The Lionesses defeated Sweden 0:4 in the match held at Brentford's home stadium and will wait for the winner in the second semi-final to be held tonight between Germany and France.

England started the game with a lack of concentration, but goals from Beth Mead, Lucy Brones, Alessia Russo and Fran Kirby saw them to a sensational victory in front of a rapturous crowd at Bramall Lane.

Having crashed out at the semi-final stage in their last three major tournaments, England will play at Wembley on Sunday.

"The media asked if we are ready to make history? This is history," said Dutch coach Serena Wijmann, who led the Netherlands to the title in 2017, in a post-match press conference, "We want to inspire the nation. I think that's what we're doing. We want to make a difference ".

Wichmann was pleased with the way her side beat the Swedes who are unbeaten in their last 34 official games.

"I'm very proud," she said.

"Once again, the team found a way to beat the opponent. We struggled a bit with the way they played defense, but as the minutes went by we got better. My shuttlers found solutions. The Swedes were so strong in transition attacks, but when we scored it helped a lot."

With yesterday's win, England now go 19 games unbeaten under Wichmann, who takes over in September 2021, and she admitted she was surprised by her team's good performance.

"When you come to a new team, you hope that things will work out and that you will connect with the staff and the players," Wiegman said.

"From the beginning there was a click. You can see, but it's also a matter of hard work. I don't take things for granted, but you can feel the energy, that people believe in how we work, how we want to play. The results were really, really good and it's really nice."
