Schalke 04 kept the outsiders Bremer SV at bay and made it through to the second round of the DFB Cup.
The team from the newly promoted Bundesliga team led by new coach Frank Kramer beat the regional league team, who were overwhelmed from the start, 5-0 (4-0) in Oldenburg.
Rodrigo Zalazar (2'), the strong Dominick Drexler (12', 33') and an own goal by Sebastian Kmiec (39') put the five-time cup winner, who started with seven summer signings from the start, on course in the first half.
After the break, Marcin Kaminski increased (83').
Sebastian Polter (5th) also failed with a weak penalty kick from the Bremen goalkeeper Malte Seemann, who reacted strongly.
SV Sandhausen also uncompromising
The Gelsenkircheners made a good impression in a folk festival atmosphere in front of 10,000 spectators in the sold-out Marschweg Stadium.
From the goal with Alexander Schwolow to the striker Sebastian Polter instead of the battered top scorer Simon Terodde, the Royal Blues started with a completely different face compared to the promotion season.
Before the duel, the sporting challenge had almost faded into the background.
Much was said and smiled about the lack of warm water in the venerable stadium.
The city of Oldenburg switched off the central system during the school holidays to save energy.
Schalke ultimately took it as a deserved refreshment.
The proverbial "cold shower" on the lawn clearly didn't happen.
SV Sandhausen has uncompromisingly cleared its first obstacle in the DFB Cup.
The second division team easily won 4-0 (3-0) against the Lower Saxony regional league team BSV Rehden on Sunday.
Last year, SVS lost 4-0 to RB Leipzig in the first round, while Rehden was there for the first time this season since 2014/15.
Janik Bachmann (23'/45'), once with the help of the inside post, and Ahmed Kutucu (32') following up after his own long-range shot, robbed Rehden of any hope of a surprise in the first half.
Alexander Schirow (51st) followed up in front of 1500 spectators against the overwhelmed fourth division team.
